New SSD instances on Public Cloud
OVH has revamped its Public Cloud instances. The range, which used to be exclusively made of HA Block Storage instances, now consists of two groups of SSD Low Disk Latency instances specifically designed to getn increased input/output (I/O) performance and reduce latency.
Until now, Public Cloud instances were solely based on Ceph, a technology that allows us to replicate data three times, thus providing optimal storage security. Although extremely reliable, Ceph was limiting instance performance due to the latency induced by the process of network data storage. Our customers asked us to rethink the design of our instances to meet the requirements brought on by tasks involving low-latency storage, such as using transactional databases.
Therefore, the OVH Public Cloud team has decided to form two new groups of instances based on SSD disks. Data is not replicated and is stored locally, making it available for immediate access. The first group - SSD RAM instances - is ideal for transactional or NoSQL database management such as Cassandra or MangoDB. The second, SSD CPU Instances, includes instances suitable for high performance calculations or online gaming.
These two new groups of instances complement the existing product offer. On one hand, we have instances that guarantee optimal data security with triple replication, and on the other hand, we have instances designed for extremely quick access to data through the use of SSD disks.
In the coming weeks, this expansion of the Public Cloud instances will be followed by the release of new EG instances for non-specialized or general usage.
